The Ministry of Agriculture says hunger is a threat to Zambia’s attainment of Vision 2030 of becoming a prosperous middle income country.
Minister of Agriculture Michael Katambo says Zambia remains committed to ensure that it eliminates hunger by 2030. The minister said this in Lusaka during the World Food Day Dinner organized by Global Citizen, an international organization advocating for improved nutrition.
Mr. Katambo says the Zambian Government is in support of the Mandela 100 strategy whose aim is to promote good nutrition in Africa. He has also observed the need for farmers to adopt new agriculture techniques as this will help in maintaining food security not only in Zambia but also in Africa.
Speaking at the same event, Global Citizen Zambia Consultant Mwandwe Chileshe expressed concern that huge chunks of food goes to waste while a number of people on the African continent go hungry without having meals.
She has called on government to spend about US$40 per child monthly in order to reduce stunting levels in Zambia.
