Ministry of Agriculture investigates alleged FISP scam

A scam has been unearthed in Kamlaza area of Kasenengwa district Eastern Province in which farmers under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) are being made to pay an additional K15 to the initial K400.
Speaking during a community interface meeting, a farmer, Daniel Banda disclosed that cooperative members have been told that they need to add a K15 to the initial K400, but have not been told how it will be used.
The meeting was organised by the Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR),
The farmers have further questioned why government has not delivered inputs to them yet, despite earlier indications that it would disburse the implements as early as September.
But in response, Ministry of Agriculture Provincial Senior Extension Methodology Officer, John Chuba expressed ignorance on the said 15 contribution Kwacha, saying government only recognizes the K400.
Agriculture Permanent Secretary Julius Shawa says the Ministry is investigating the matter because it is illegal and such a situation cannot be allowed.
