Mobile Money Agents suspect hacked system

Some Mobile Money Agents say they suspect that the Mobile money systems in the country have been hacked.
This follows a scam where people are receiving text messages asking them to transfer money through mobile money on pretext that they have been waiting for the funds to be sent to them.
Some unsuspecting members of the public have reportedly fallen prey to the scam having sent money thinking they are sending to relatives or friends when infact not.
Money FM News took around the Lusaka city to ask some agents over their experiences who say a lot of people have lost amounts of money to the now popular scam.
They have since recommended that the authorities intensify security around their systems as the agents are now experiencing reduced business performance due mainly to the criminal activities.
Airtel Zambia says the Matter is under investigation and the network provider is working with the Zambia Information Techology Authority ZICTA and the Bank of Zambia and other law enforcement Agencies to resolve the matter.
Company corporate Communications Manager Yuyo KambiKambi refused to comment further saying it may jeopardize the ongoing investigations.
Efforts to get comments from the MTN Zambia and the Necessary Authorities were fruitless as their phones went unanswered.
