Economist guides on Sinking Fund

Economist Herryman Moono says Zambia risks not saving enough in the Sinking Fund to repay the Eurobonds by the time they are due.
Mr. Moono says this is because of the rate at which the government is saving in the fund which is about ten million US Dollars.
He has observed the need for government to speedily grow the fund in order to repay the bonds when they are due.
“If the rate at which we saving in the sinking fund is constant, we may not have enough to repay the bonds. We need to grow the fund,” he said.
Mr. Moono is however pleased that the setting up of the fund is a good thing as it is aimed at repaying Zambia’s debt.
