Govt urged to restrict participation of foreigners in certain business

The Zambia Alliance of Women has observed the need for government to restrict participation of foreigners in certain business that Zambians can do.
Alliance Programmes Manager Ceaser Katebe says the government should take bold steps to protect local businesses by ensuring that they do not compete with foreigners.
He says this does not mean that the government should completely block foreigners from doing business but that there are some of the businesses that locals can do without competition with foreigners.
Speaking with Money FM News via telephone from Malaga, Spain, Mr. Katebe has further observed the need for Zambians to take advantage of the regional markets in COMESA and SADC to increase trade.
“There is an already market in the SADC and COMESA region, why can’t we take advantage of this available market to increase trade,” he questioned.
“Government should also lower the cost of doing business more especially in the agriculture sector. Slowly agriculture is becoming unstainable for most women in the agribusiness.”
Mr. Katebe states that the government should go a step further in subsidizing the inputs for women farmers.
He says the majority of small holder farmers are women and hence the need to support them financially and technically.
