‘Kasaka Mobile Saving’ on the cards

MTN Zambia and Barclays Bank Zambia PLC are working on a mobile product aimed at promoting the culture of saving in Zambia.
This was disclosed in Lusaka today during the launch of MTN Zambia, Barclays Bank Zambia Plc and Zambia Revenue Authority Mobile Payment System.
MTN Chief Executive Officer Charles Molapisi says the mobile saving platform system will be dubbed ‘Kasaka’.
Mr. Molapisi also says the mobile service provider is working with Barclays Bank on a point of sale integration that will see to it that all Barclays Bank Point of Sale, customers will be able to transact through mobile money.
He says with the advancement in technology, he is confident that Barclays Bank will be available for future partnerships in order to save the Zambian population better.
And Barclays Bank Chief Executive Officer Mizinga Melu says the bank has so far injected over K43 million in technologies aimed at digitalizing financial services to scale up client acquisition and patronage.
Ms Melu says the bank in partnership with MTN Zambia also introduced an e-wallet platform where customers can transfer money from their bank account to MTN Mobile Money Account.
She says this product is called ‘Kongola’ aimed at serving the customers better.
Speaking earlier, ZRA Acting Commissioner General Brigitte Muyenga says mobile money platforms are now widely used in the revenue collection.
Ms Muyenga is confident that this partnership will help the authority manage tax compliance as this is an easy platform to use that does not require internet connectivity.
