The Ministry of Energy says the construction of the US$1.5 million Chipota Hydropower Station in Serenje District is expected to start in April next year.
Energy Minister Mathew Nkhuwa said this after visiting the site in the district.
Mr. Nkhuwa says the Government wanted to take electricity to all parts of the country.
Mr. Nkhuwa says the hydropower station will produce about 200 kilowatts which will support more than 15,000 households once commissioned.
He says the Government will ensure that that electricity is taken to all parts of the country to enhance development in rural areas.
Central Province has witnessed increased investment pledges in the aftermath of the regional Investment Forum and expo which was held in September this year.
Apart from the hydropower project, the region has received more than US $1 billion investment pledges while massive projects in Chibombo, Luano and Ngabwe are being implemented.
