December inflation rate increases to 7.9%

Central Statistical Office says the Year on year Inflation rate for the month of December 2018 has increased to 7.9 percent from 7.8 percent recorded in November.
CSO Acting Director for Census and Statistics Goodson Sinyenga says this means that on average prices of food and services increased by 7.9 percent between December 2017 and December 2018.
Mr. Sinyenga has attributed the increase to nonfood items such as household furniture and furnishings and transport.
He says the year on year food inflation rate for the month under review was recorded at 8.1 percent, a 0.3 percent decrease from the 8.4 percent recorded in November.
Mr. Sinyenga has attributed the decrease to price changes of vegetables which include Rape, Pumpkin leaves, Spinach, cabbage and fruits.
He disclosed this during the presentation of the SCO Monthly Bulletin in Lusaka today adding that the annual nonfood inflation rate was recorded at 7.6, a 0.6 percent increase from the 7.0 percent recorded in November 2018.
The Acting director has attributed this to household furniture and furnishings as well as transport which includes domestic and regional air fares.
