Sunday Blackouts: Zesco blames road contractor

The Power Utility Company Zesco says power blackout that was experienced in some parts of Lusaka yesterday is as a result of some Zesco cables that were cut due to road expansion works that are going on in the area.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Zesco National Spokesperson Henry Kapata says the contractors carrying out road construction works damaged two underground Zesco cables while they carried out their duties.
Mr. Kapata has since identified Ngwena, Chamba Valley and Roma Township as some areas that experienced long hours without electricity.
He adds that Zesco will this week engage the contractors on the need to ensure that they rehearse with the power utility firm whenever they are carrying out construction works in any area.
Mr. Kapata laments that lack of contractors to rehearse with Zesco when carrying out road expansion works is resulting in Zesco cables being damaged.
Mr. Kapata says that the electricity black outs have nothing to do with load shedding other that the faults resulting from the cutting down of Zesco cables.
