Zambia set to benefit from Israel’s technology in curbing poaching

Tourism and Arts Minister Hon. Dr. Banda says Zambia looks forward to benefiting from Israel’s expertise in nature conservation and use of technology to fight poaching.
Speaking when he met Director General of the Israeli Nature and Parks Authority (INPA) Mr. Shaul Goldstein, in Israel, Dr. Banda has welcomed the decision by INPA and the Department of National Parks and Wildlife under the Ministry to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in national parks management and development.
Dr. Banda says the MoU will include preservation of cultural, heritage sites and packaging them as tourism products, training of local people as tour guides and technical support towards capacity building and handling human wildlife conflicts.
And Mr. Goldstein says INPA is planning to travel to Zambia in September, 2019 to meet with DNPW to discuss the terms of the MoU and if possible, conclude the process during the planned visit to Zambia.
The Minister was also taken to visit Caesarea National Park, an ancient Herodian Port city located on Israel’s Mediterranean Coast. The Park is one of the Israel’s impressive archeological sites with a restored harbor, which was built by King Herod.
Dr. Banda is in Israel to attend the IMTM, which is one of the largest professional tourism fairs of its kind in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The event officially opens tomorrow February 12, 2019. The Minister was invited by his Israeli counterpart, Minister of Tourism of the state of Israel Hon. Yariv Levin for the two countries to discuss mutual areas of interest in Tourism.
The visit is a follow up to the 2017 meeting held during the State visit to Israel between President of the Republic Zambia Mr. Edgar Lungu and Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of the State of Israel where the two countries agreed to explore tourism cooperation among other areas.
