ZILARD urges Govt to be aggressive to implement revised Minimum Wage

Zambia Institute for Labour Research and Development (ZILARD) has urged the Ministry of Labour to ensure that it fully implements the revised minimum wages.
The Research has also welcomed intentions to revise the minimum wage in the mining industry saying this will help the workers.
ZILARD Programmes Manager Francis Phiri has told Money FM News that his organization undertook an assessment where they discovered that one of the largest Security Companies in Zambia is not complying with the revised minimum wage.
Mr. Phiri says it is time workers in the mining sector are subjected to good conditions of service.
Mr. Phiri says it is a good thing that government decided to revise the minimum wages, the more reason government must see to it that the law is implemented by the employers of the affected workers.
He says the implementation of the revised minimum wages has been poor by government despite formulating the framework.
He laments that most investors in the country do no adhere to the newly introduced minimum wage law, hence the more reason the ministry of labour should intensify inspections and ensure that employers comply with the statutory instrument.
Mr Phiri has since urged the Ministry of Labour to carry out massive inspections in various industries and companies across the country and ensure that employers implement the revised minimum wage.
