Street Vendors asked to occupy empty stalls in Kabwata

Kabwata Ward 6 Councillor, Longa Chiboboka, has implored vegetable street vendors in his ward to go back to the vegetable shade and occupy empty stalls.
Mr. Chiboboka has observed that there are many empty trading stalls in the vegetable shade at Kabwata Main Market and wonders why people are opting to trade along the streets.
He said the market offered a much cleaner environment for trade than streets.
He was speaking when he led residents of his ward in the monthly cleaning exercise and inspection of public places to monitor compliance and participation.
“In line with the Make Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy, I took part in the cleaning in selected zones of Kabwata among them Kabwata Main Market. May I mention that there are empty trading stalls in the vegetable shade, those needing them come and fill them up and trade in a clean environment,” he said.
The scenario of empty trading stalls in markets was common in all the markets in Lusaka contrary to claims by vendors that there were no trading spaces in markets and that was why they were trading in the streets.
“I would also like to announce that His Worship the Mayor of Lusaka, Mr Miles Sampa Bwalya Sampa is scheduled grace the Keep Kabwata Clean, Green and Healthy sensitisation day in Libala Stage 4 (B) at which the best maintained house will be rewarded by the Mayor,” he announced.
The civic leader encouraged all residents of his ward to attend the sensitisation day which will focus on the importance waste management and general cleanliness.
