The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) has noted that indefinite closures of institutions of Higher learning by the government make public institutions unattractive at local and international levels.
NAQEZ Executive director Aaron Chansa says many closures paint a bad picture about the country’s education system and the effects of such decisions may not be immediately visible, but are drastic in the long run.
Mr. Chansa said this in an interview with Money FM following the indefinite closure of the Copperbelt University (CBU) by government yesterday following protests by the students at the learning institution.
The Ministry of Higher Education has announced the indefinite closure of Copperbelt University (CBU).
Higer Education Minister Professor Nkandu Luo said during the announcement that has banned unions at CBU with immediate effect.
She however said the Michael Chilufya Sata Medical School in Ndola will not be affected together with international courses.
Mr. Chansa says closing the institution is not the solution to the challenge at hand and has advised the Minister to rescind the decision and instead have dialogue with the students.
