Zambia records K754.9m trade surplus in March

Zambia has recorded a trade surplus of K754.9 million in March from a trade deficit of K390 million in February 2019.
Central Statistical Office (CSO) Acting Director for Census and Statistics Goodson Sinyenga said this is due to the increase in the value of exports recorded at seven billion, seven hundred and seventy three point four million kwacha.
Mr. Sinyenga said this indicated an 11.3 percent increase from the six billion nine hundred and eighty five point eight million kwacha recorded in February 2019.
He explained that imports slightly decreased by 3.8 percent from K7,294.8 million in February to K7,018.5 million in March 2019 attributed to a decrease in imports if intermediate goods by 8.3 percent and capital goods by 2.9 percent.
Mr. Sinyenga further explained that exports made a significant increase of 11.3 percent from K6, 985.6 million in February to K7, 773.4 million in March 2019 attributed to an increase in exports of intermediate goods by 12.6 percent and consumer goods by 21.8 percent.
He said Traditional Export earnings increased by 11.3 percent from K4,988.1 million in February to K5,552.8 million in march 2019, while Non-Traditional (NTE) exports earnings increased by 11.2 percent from K1,997.7 billion to K2,220.6 million in March 2019.
