Ministry of Transport and Communications has with immediate effect dissolved the Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority and Zambia Postal Service Corporation Boards.
In a statement issued to Money FM News, Transport and Communications Minister Mutotwe Kafwaya said the decision was arrived at in accordance with section 4 part 1 of the Zambia Information and communications Authority Act no.15 of 2009.
“In accordance with section 4 part 1 of the Zambia Information and communications Authority Act no.15 of 2009 and powers vested in me thereof, I have decided to dissolve the ZICTA Board with immediate effect” Kafwaya said.
Mr Kafwaya said in accordance with the first schedule section 3 of the postal services Act he has also dissolved the Zambia Postal Services Corporation Board.
“In accordance with the first schedule section 3 of the postal services Act I have decided to dissolved the Zambia Postal Services Corporation Board with immediate effect.” He said.
Mr. Kafwaya said he was grateful to the outgoing members of the ZICTA and ZAMPOST board for their contribution to the nation during their tenure.
Meanwhile Private Sector Development Association said it is not surprised by the dissolution of the Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority and Zambia Postal Service Corporation Boards.
Private Sector Development Association Chairperson Yusuf Dodia said Zambia Postal Service Corporation has been stagnate for many years and it is time that government appointed a board that will improve service delivery at the institution to make it viable.
“Service delivery at Zampost lagged behind for so many years despite the advancements in technology which should not be the case, dissolution of the board will give government an opportunity to appoint a vibrate board that will bring new innovations at the institution” Dodia said.
He adds that the dissolution of the Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority board is also opportunity to improve the quality of internet services in the country.
