ZICTA to continue ensuring quality of service by mobile network providers.

The Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) says it will continue ensuring that the quality of service offered by mobile network providers in the country is improved.

ZICTA Director General Patrick Mutimushi told Money FM News in an interview says the authority has been charging penalties to mobile companies who have been found wanting but that in most cases they improve for a moment but then go back to offering substandard services.

Mr. Mutimushi said towards the last quarter of 2019, the provision of quality services to mobile subscribers was not up to standard adding that the erring mobile network providers were charged and paid the penalties.

“With time we’ve engaged operators, when we give them penalties they improve again they go back and last year was very bad,” he said.
He however said ZICTA was not in a money making venture but is there to ensure that quality of service is adhered to, hence the need for telecommunication companies to improve their services.
“The point is that we are not in the venture of making money, we are in the venturing of ensuring that the quality of service is adhered to,” he stated.

Mr. Mutimushi said the Authority expects to see an improvement this year because the operators have been engaged on several occasions and guided on what they need to do.
“Operators have pumped in a lot of money in upgrading their network, come this year we will be able to see an improvement,” Mr. Mutimushi added.
