Mining firms challenged to support small scale miners.

Small Scale Miners Association of Zambia has challenged big Mining firms currently operating in the country to support small scale miners who are struggling to grow their businesses.

Association Executive Director Kunda Chani said apart from government, private players that are established in the mining industry should come on board to support the noble cause as they have the capacity to reduce the stress on small scale miners.

“All big mining firms that are currently operating in the country should come on board and support this noble cause, it is not enough for them to continue mining in the country,” Mr. Chani said.

Mr. Chani said if there are a lot of players on the market doing profitable mining, a lot of sectors in the economy will benefit due to increased mining activities.

“Their core business is mining, hence their bigger focus should be how to improve other mining firms,” he stated.

And Mr. Chani commended two mining firms on the Copperbelt for pledging to support small scale miners in the region with resources and equipment.

He said the association was very excited that Grizzly Mines and Kagem Mines have come on board to lend a helping hand to the mining firms.

Mr. Chani urged other cooperating partners like the European Union to come on board and support the sector.

Grizzly mines and Kagem mines have pledged to support Small Scale miners on the Copperbelt with resources and equipment to help grow their businesses.
