Zambia records 3 Covid-19 related deaths

The Ministry of Health has disclosed that Zambia has recorded 3 Covid-19 related deaths, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 10.
Speaking at the routine media briefing, Ministry Permanent Secretary for Administration Kakulubelwa Mulalelo said the cases involved a 47 year old truck driver who had respiratory distress, 75 year old woman and 40 year old man all from the Copperbelt.
“We have recorded three associated deaths on the Copperbelt, increasing our number to ten Covid total deaths to date. These include a 47 year old truck driver who had a respiratory distress and went into coma for three days, a 75 year old woman who was admitted to Ndola Teaching Hospital with pneumonia, a 40 year old man with history of long standing hypertension and HIV infection with poor adherence to treatment at Ndola Teaching Hospital,” Ms. Mulalelo said.
Ms. Mulalelo also disclosed that the country has recorded 111 new Covid-19 cases out of 8, 805 tests conducted in the last 7 days, bringing the total number of cases to 1, 200.
She said 33 of the cases are from community screening, 8 contacts to known positive cases, 27 detected through health facility screening, 14 health care workers and 27 truck drivers.
Ms. Mulalelo further revealed that 112 patients have been discharged from isolation facilities adding that the total number of recoveries now stands at 988.
“ A total of 112 patients have been discharged from our isolation facilities in the last 7 days, thus the cumulative number of cases now stands at 1, 200 out of 37, 448 tests conducted so far, which includes 10 deaths and 988 recoveries. All patients remaining under isolation are in stable condition,” she stated.
She also disclosed that Minister of Heath Dr. Chitalu Chilufya and his Counterpart at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services Dora Siliya who were both in isolation have been discharged after testing negative on two successive tests.
Globally, a total of Seven million, Ninety One thousand, Six hundred and Sixty Seven Covid-19 cases have been recorded including four hundred, and Six thousand, One hundred and Ninety five deaths, and three million, four hundred and sixty one, six hundred and nineteen recoveries.
