GEARS urges Schools to be lenient to parents regarding fees

Governance, Elections, Advocacy, and Research Services (GEARS) Initiative Zambia has joined other stakeholders in urging School authorities to be lenient to parents as they raise school fees in this shortest period of time.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Organization Executive Director McDonald Chipenzi said the reopening of schools is good news to all parents, but that the notice is short for them to prepare and look for fees.
Mr. Chipenzi further thanked President Edgar Lungu for reopening learning institutions stating that there was uncertainty on the issue of progression to the next grades for pupils in non-examination classes.
“It is gratifying that the President has announced the reopening of all schools, colleges and universities, this will help a lot because there was uncertainty on the issue of progression of non-examination classes.”
“This is good news to all parents, except that perhaps the notice is short for them to prepare and look for fees because most of them had switched off their minds and focused them for January 2021. But I think the move is right and it would just be good for education administrators to be lenient to parents to raise the necessary school fees in this shortest period of time to allow their children to go to school, register and start learning,” Mr. Chipenzi said.
And Mr. Chipenzi hailed the Head of State for clarifying that a new Voters’ register for the 2021 general elections will be prepared by the Electoral Commission of Zambia to eliminate possible duplicate record.
“It is also good that the President mentioned the issue of elections and clarified the issue of the voters’ register.”
“We have a lot of uncertainties and contradictions from the managers of these elections who are the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) where they were mentioning about maintaining the old register on condition instead of being clearer that voter registration is about new register.
