No performance for uncleared Mafikizolo, Master KG

Ministry of Tourism and Arts says no person or organization is allowed to promote any artistic event without a promoter’s license obtained from the National Arts Council of Zambia.

Ministry Public Relations Officer Sakabilo Kalembwe told Money FM News that under provisions of the National Arts Council (NAC) Act, all foreign artists are supposed to be cleared 3 months before the event and are expected to pay 20% of performance fees as Withholding Tax Clearance to the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).

Mr. Kalembwe said no international artiste has been cleared to perform in Zambia this weekend as the National Arts Council has not received any application.

“The Ministry of Tourism and Arts’ wishes to clarify that there is no international artiste who has been cleared to perform in Zambia this weekend.”

“According to the Ministry, in accordance to provisions of the National Arts Council (NAC) Act Cap 170 of the Laws of Zambia and Statutory Instrument 129 of 199 5 Section 5, no person or organization is allowed to promote any artistic event without a promoters license obtained from the National Arts Council of Zambia,” Mr. Kalembwe stated.

He advised the committee organizing the Covid-19 sensitization rally on the Copperbelt to urgently normalize the matters if the foreign artists are to be cleared to perform in Zambia.

Mr. Kalembwe stated that the Ministry will ensure that the law is followed to the latter and the right thing is done.

“In view of the above, we write to advise the Committee to urgently normalize these matters if the foreign artists are to be cleared to perform in Zambia.”

The Ministry appreciates the support it received including from the Republican President Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu in ensuring that all art forms are promoted and developed,” he added.

South African musicians, Mafikizolo and Master KG, have been invited to grace a COVID-19 sensitization rally on the Copperbelt Province on this Saturday, organized by the provincial mobilization committee of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) party.
