Zambia ideal investment destination – Government

Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry has called on the French Business Community and other would be investors to consider investing in Zambia as it is an ideal destination for investment.
Speaking during the Virtual Investment Forum organized by the Zambian Mission in France in conjunction with the Movement of the Enterprise of France (MEDEF), Christopher Yaluma said the country still remains open for investment despite reduced economic activities caused by Covid-19.
Mr. Yaluma urged MEDEF to invest in various sectors of the economy and take advantage of the free market area in view of the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA) which is set to begin in January, 2021.
“Therefore, despite the challenges being caused by the pandemic, Zambia still presents a silver lining and remains open for investment and doing business with the world. Zambia is a country with numerous untapped investment and business opportunities across all sectors.”
“Suffice to mention that Zambia is signatory to the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA) which is coming into effect next year. Further, Zambia is well positioned to be used as a viable launch pad to penetrate the entire African market,” Mr. Yaluma said.
He assured would-be investors that government will ensure that their investments in Zambia are safe because the country’s political environment is favorable and democratic.
Mr. Yaluma said government through the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) and other relevant institutions will ensure the safety of their investments.
“Let me assure you that Zambia’s political situation remains favorable and democratic. You may wish to note that we will be going back to the polls next year and this political process should not make you feel indifferent about investing in any of Zambia’s economic sectors. This is also because Zambia has in the past held peaceful elections and at no time did we as a country experience any form of political instability since we got independence in 1964,” he stated.

The aim of the forum is to promote Zambia as an ideal investment destination and also stimulate the interest of the would-be French investors to explore investment opportunities in the country.
