Software developer anticipates upsurge in usage of mobile money services as COVID-19 cases rise

A Lusaka based software developer says Zambia will experience an upsurge in the usage of mobile money services due to the rise in COVID-19 cases.
In an interview with Money FM, Viktor Kanyoze says COVID-19 precautions like social distancing and limited movements have forced many people to turn to cashless transactions.
‘‘We are going to experience a huge spike in mobile payment usage because COVID-19 has made us change the usual norm of conducting business,’’ he said.
Mr. Kanyoze notes that mobile payment platforms have also been on the rise due to a spike in their usage.
‘‘Looking at the ZICTA statistics, there has been a huge uptake in the number of mobile money service providers.
‘‘The automatic registration of sim cards by mobile service companies has also made it easy for people to transact on their phones.’’
He further adds that more investors should be expected to join the mobile payment industry as it has a lot of opportunities.
