Government says the National Adaptation Planning (NAP) for Climate Resilience Zambia for 2020 to 2023 project is meant to develop a system of integrating climate change adaptation into plans and budget.
Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Jean Kapata said the project is aimed at identifying challenges and gaps in the institutional coordination and collaboration for adaptation planning in the country and develop mechanisms for strengthening them.
Ms. Kapata stated that the unprecedented climate risks have had devastating impact on most parts of the country, with urban areas recently experiencing flash floods and causing damage to infrastructure amid the global Covid- 19 pandemic, hence the need for the NAP Project to be implemented.
She explained that this is following Zambia being awarded over USD2 million for readiness support to the national adaptation planning for climate resilience by green climate fund in April 2020.
Ms. Kapata was speaking in a speech read for her by Permanent Secretary in the same Ministry Ndashe Yumba during the launch of the project in Lusaka today.

Ms. Kapata said climate change is not gender neutral but it affects men and women, the aged and the disabled differently due to varying socio-economic status that has an influence on their adaptive capacities.
She disclosed that this is following Zambia being awarded over USD2 million for readiness support to the national adaptation planning (NAP) for climate resilience by green climate fund in April 2020.
