Zambia must learn from BIF 2021 – Envoy

Zambia’s Ambassador to Brazil says Zambia can draw lessons from the Brazil Investment Forum (BIF) 2021.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Brazil Investment Forum 2021 in Brasilia, Dr. Alfreda Kansembe-Mwamba said the BIF which is an international event aimed at attracting foreign direct investment to the country, is the way to go amid the current global pandemic.
Dr. Kansembe stated that Zambia can take a leaf from such forums where the private sector collaborates with Government in promoting massive Investment in agribusiness, energy, infrastructure development, manufacturing, innovation, health and technology sectors to which the country attaches great importance.
“There is so much that we can grow in Zambia, there is so much land and we have so much water even when it is not raining we have water and we can use that water to promote agriculture from a small scale to a commercial farmer, we can do it. Everyone can participate in the agribusiness industry to promote themselves and also to contribute to the economy,” Dr. Kansembe noted.
She further praised the initiative, stating that such promotions towards economic recovery must be Zambia’s focus in a global climate, where bigger economies are going back to the drawing board in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“There are forums that are happening in the world where we can share ideas. The fact that there is Covid and people cannot meet and assemble in one place, is not the reason why people cannot share ideas. People out there in the world are holding virtual meetings, we don’t need personal contact with anyone and Zambia should take a leaf from other countries that are doing this so that we continue with whatever programs we have put in place, let’s not be slowed down by Covid-19 we can share ideas by attending virtual meetings.”
Meanwhile, Meanwhile Brazil’s Ministry of Economic, Deputy Minister for Foreign Trade and International Affairs Roberto Fendt said the last two years have been marked by the challenges of the COVID -19 Pandemic and efforts by world economies to recover damages caused by the health crisis have not been easy.
The Brazil Investment Forum (BIF) 2021 brought together Federal and State Government authorities and executives from large companies from Brazil and the world.
This is contained in a statement availed by First Secretary, Press and Public Relations at the Zambian Embassy in Brazil, Grace Makowane.
