NAQEZ calls for overhaul of education system

• Stakeholders are confident Douglas Siakalima will help cushion some challenges.
• The new Minister should embrace all stakeholders
• Financial attachment to education in next year’s budget is more important.

National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) says it expects a complete overhaul of the country’s education system through extensive reviews of the National Policy on Education.
NAQEZ Executive Director Aaron Chansa told Money FM News that without attending to the matters, the country will continue to have a system of education that will always produce job seekers instead of churning out graduates who can innovate, invent and create jobs.
And Mr. Chansa said the amount of financial attachment to the education in next year’s national budget is more important for the sector than continuing with two Ministries of Education.
He noted that despite having two Ministries under the previous Government, the budgetary allocation to the Education Sector was inadequate.
Mr. Chansa said stakeholders are confident that the appointment of Douglas Siakalima as Education Minister will help cushion some challenges that the education sector has been facing.
“Our new Minister should embrace all stakeholders in moving the Ministry forward through a consultative process, which process is mentioned in the UPND Manifesto of 2021-2026 under the education component of the ruling party’s manifesto” Mr. Chansa said.
He further noted that the creation of Ministry of Science and Technology in collaboration with other Ministries will be instrumental in driving industrialization which has potential to create jobs for youths and other citizens.
“With adequate funding to the Ministry of Science and Technology for 5 years, Zambia will become scientifically and technologically competitive among others in the community of nations,” he stated.
Mr. Chansa also pledged the Organization’s support to the new Minister of Education for the benefit of education and Zambia as a whole.
Yesterday, President Hakainde Hichilema appointed and swore in Douglas Siakalima as new Education Minister.
