• Government has been disbursing funds to schools since the introduction of free primary education in 2002.
• in 2019 an amount of 3 million Kwacha was allocated to Zambia open community schools
• In 2020 and 2021 an amount of K2,556,377 was allocated respectively.
Ministry of Education says since the introduction of free primary education in 2002, Government has been disbursing funds to schools and the Zambia Open Community Schools (ZOCS) are not unexceptional.
Speaking at during the engagement meeting with the parliamentary committee on education, science and technology, Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Dr. Jobicks Kalumba noted that in 2019 an amount of 3 million Kwacha was allocated to Zambia open community schools while in 2020 and 2021 an amount of K2,556,377 was allocated respectively.
Dr. Kalumba also stated that the ministry in collaboration with Zocs has continued providing school feeding in community schools.
“In the period of between April to June 2021, there was distribution of food suppliers for school feeding in 53 schools from three provinces namely: Lusaka, Northern and southern province.
Dr. Kalumba added that this programme benefited a total of 16,460 leaners.
“The Ministry of Education also distributed desks to some community schools that is in Luapula 45, Southern 955, Northern 180, western 173, Central 220 and Eastern Province 70 desks.

And speaking at the same event, Zambia Open Community School (ZOCS) board chairperson Victor Koyi revealed that ZOCS is committed to working with the government and ensure that every child in Zambia enjoys their right to education.
“Our task as ZOCS and community schools in the country, is to make it possible for orphans and vulnerable children especially girls and those with special educational needs to gain access to quality education,” he said
