Minister of Transport and Logistics says Zambia’s Aviation Industry is widening scope on the globe through strengthening domestic and regional connectivity, with the view of connecting producers to markets, supporting participation in regional and global value chains.
Officiating at the Zambia Airways inaugural flight into Ndola, Frank Tayali said the country’s aviation industry is lowering the cost of doing business, enhancing competitiveness and improving public service delivery.
Mr. Tayali stated that commencement of flights into Ndola by the National Airline marks a key milestone in the Aviation sub-sector, as the country continues on its journey to achieving its goal of repositioning Zambia into a major Aviation hub in the sub-continent and Africa as a whole.
“Government is ready to support the growth of the Aviation sector. This is demonstrated by the Zambia Airways inaugural flight into Ndola today. We are quite confident that the national airline will enable socio-economic development by providing downstream or catalytic impacts particularly in tourism and trade dependent industries,” Mr. Tayali said.
He reiterated that Zambia Airways is expected to operate six aircrafts and carry over 700, 000 passengers by 2027.
“I will to encourage Zambia Airways to consider expanding their flights to routes that are currently not serviced. We are eager to see increased frequencies and possible routes into other towns across the country,” he added.
And Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo is confident that most businesses across the sub-region will decide to position their businesses in Zambia due to the country’s ability and well developing infrastructure base.
The airline will operate six times a week, and five times a week to Ndola and Livingstone, while other domestic routes to Mfuwe and Solwezi, will follow before introducing regional destinations, to Johannesburg, South Africa and Harare, Zimbabwe to its network within the first quarter of 2022.
