• Below Normal rainfall recorded over much of Zambia as at 10th December, 2021;
• Below average rainfall to persist over Chama, Isoka, Mafinga and surrounding areas;
• Farmers are encouraged to ensure their fields are ready for planting;
Zambia Meteorological Department has predicted an increase in rainfall activities across the country from 14th December 2021.
In view of the anticipated increase in rainfall activities, the Department urged farmers to ensure that their fields are ready for planting and consider planting Early to Medium maturing varieties.
Farmers have further been advised to apply basal dressing fertilizers at planting time, and see to it that Surveillance of pests and disease outbreaks such as fall armyworms is enhanced.
It says below average rainfall will persist over Chama, Isoka, Mafinga and surrounding areas.

Lately, several parts of Zambia have been experiencing dry spells, with some stakeholders fearing that the situation might negatively affect agricultural production in 2022.
Ministry of Green Economy and Environment through Zambia Meteorological Department recently projected that the dry spells would persist for 10 days and affect many parts of the country.
