4 arrested for operating pharmacies illegally

• Contrary to Section 14(1) of the Medicines and Allied Substances Act No. 3 of 2013.
• The four from Chirundu Market among them 3 females aged 26, 48, 30 and a Male aged 65.
• This came to light during a joint operation directed towards curbing sale of medicines and allied substances in unregistered outlets.

Zambia Medicines and Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) has disclosed that Four people of Chirundu District in Southern Province have been arrested for operating pharmacies without Certificates of Registration.

ZAMRA Public Relations Officer Ludovic Mwape tells Money FM News that this came to light during a joint operation directed towards curbing the sale of medicines and allied substances in unregistered outlets undertaken by ZAMRA Inspectors, in collaboration with Drug Enforcement Commission in the district.

Mr. Mwape notes the four from Chirundu Market among them 3 females aged 26, 48, 30 and a Male aged 65 have since been released on Police Bond and will appear in court soon.

He says the Outlets of the four include Alpha and Omega Drug Store, Farmers Nest Agrovet Shop, Skyline best healthcare and Unlabeled Store.

According to Mr. Mwape, the offence is “contrary to Section 14(1) of the Medicines and Allied Substances Act No. 3 of 2013.”
