Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has exceeded the revenue collection target by K1.3 billion after recording net outturn of K22.4 billion against a target of K21.1billion in Quarter 1 of 2022.

ZRA Acting Corporate Communications Manager Oliver Nzala noted on a Year on Year comparison, ZRA collected gross revenue of K26.5 billion in Q1 of 2022 as compared to K19.5 billion in same period of 2021 representing a growth of 36%.

Mr. Nzala further revealed that in the period under review, refunds increased by 56% from K2.6 billion in 2021 to K4.1 billion in 2022.

“When you look at this increment in the refund, the authority has made it a point that it is very important to quickly pay off these refunds, you cannot collect if the players in the economy are not having enough capital or cash flow to continue operating their business,” he said.

He further appealed to Tax payers to continue being tax compliant, ensure file returns are on time and make payments on time.

Mr. Nzala stated that it is important for those that are owing to settle their outstanding liabilities

He encouraged those with difficulties to pay off certain liabilities to negotiate for a time to pay agreement with the authority as long as they do not default in a bid to have a mutual agreement.

“Our purpose is to save the tax payers and collect the much needed revenue that is needed by the government to ensure that developmental projects continue to be implemented,” stated Mr. Nzala.
