Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Commission has intercepted a scam in which a 54-yearold man of Swiss Nationality attempted to export assorted repackaged and misbranded medicines without an export permit from the Authority.
ZAMRA Senior Public Relations Officer Christabel Illiamupu explained that Daniel Waldvogel, a Director at Health Support Zambia, a registered pharmaceutical outlet, was intercepted at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport for failing to provide an export permit authorizing his export of assorted medical products.
Ms. Illiamupu noted the suspect was apprehended, warned and cautioned for abrogating provisions of Section 36 (1) (2) and section 59(1) (2) of the Medicines and Allied Substances Act No. 3 of 2013 and has since been released on police bond awaiting court appearance.
She disclosed that the seized products where 190 boxes (10 x 10) labeled Aspirin delayed release tablets USP,) 242 Silver packets containing white tablets, 388 boxes (10 x 10) of Famical-D Tablets, 133 blister (54 x 10) packs of mifepristone tablets and 4 white containers containing white tablets labeled as Vitamin A.
“The Authority will take regulatory action against Health Support Zambia for contravening standards of pharmaceutical practice and wish to sternly warn would be offenders to desist from the vice,” She stated.
Ms. Illiamupu had since warned that illegal exportation and importation of medicines is an offence prosecutable by Law.
