Zambia ready to host AU summit in July – ZTA

• The Summit provides a good springboard to enhance Zambia as a MICE destination.
• It will be held at the newly built state of the art Kenneth Kaunda International Conference Centre.
• ZTA hopes that this Centre will assist to market and attract more international conventions.

Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA) says the African Union (AU) Summit which Zambia will be hosting in July this year will help enhance the country as a Meetings Conference Incentives and Exhibitions (MICE) destination.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Agency Acting Executive Director Chavunga Lungu said this is because the Summit will be held at the newly built state of the art Kenneth Kaunda International Conference Centre in Lusaka.
Mr. Lungu stated that it is the Agency’s hope that the Conference Centre will assist the country to market and attract more international conventions to be held in Zambia.
“With regards to preparations for the Mid-term Summit to be held in July, Zambia Tourism Agency confirms that we are ready to host the delegates that will come to this particular Summit as far as marketing this destination Zambia is concerned.”

He added that the Agency is currently helping with providing information on the available accommodation to the AU preparatory team, while inspecting conference and accommodation facilities to be used for the Summit.
“We are helping with providing information on the available accommodation to the AU preparatory team. We are preparing information on tour packages that delegates can access during the summit. We are also involved in the marketing of the Summit as we draw closer to the event,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Mr. Lungu disclosed that the Agency has so far graded a total of 43 hotels and lodges since the exercise started in May 2019.
Zambia will host both the 41st Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union and the 4th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the AU and the Regional Economic Communities to be held in Lusaka, from 14th to 17th July 2022.
