A Financial Advisor says stocking up supermarkets with local products will help strengthen the Kwacha against the United States Dollar.

Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Dr. Maxwell Phiri said recent remarks by President Hakainde Hichilema that super markets must be stocked with local products should be supported by all local farmers and manufacturers by enhancing their production.

Dr. Phiri stated that doing so will not only promote local production but also grow the country’s revenue base.

He also said local consumers should promote the buy Zambia campaign by buying local products so that resources stay in the country.

“Zambians should change their mindset in order for them to start valuing local products as buying local products will grow the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP),” Dr. Phiri said.

Dr. Phiri added that farmers must start growing products such as vegetables and fruits among others for export to Angola and Mozambique, as Zambia has capacity to be a net exporter of fruits and Vegetables because the country has enough land for cultivation.

“This initiative is a tool of creating jobs for local people in Zambia as farmers and Manufactures will need human capital to increase their production, “he explained.

Speaking when he endorsed the Buy Zambia Campaign, President Hakainde Hichilema reiterated the need for supermarkets stock local products.
