Mobile Money Business Association of Zambia says government’s projection that mobile money transactions will exceed K200 billion this year will create more employment opportunities for those who are venturing into the business.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Association Secretary General Chris Sinchende said this is also a huge responsibility for the Association, Mobile Money Operators, banks and others who are key stakeholders in the mobile money to address challenges that are coming with the expansion of the business.
Mr. Sinchende stated that there are a number of challenges currently affecting the sector such as the removal and demolition of mobile money booths that were placed in the Central Business District.
He noted that as a result, some agents are just working in the open space, therefore their security is compromised.
“This means that there will be more employment for those who are getting into this business, even the youth out there. For the Association, MNOs, banks and others who are key stakeholders in this mobile money business, it means now it is a huge responsibility that is being put on our shoulders and it calls for us to work together collaboratively, in order to address a number of challenges that are coming with the expansion of this business.”
“We have seen like in the CBD that the mobile money booths were removed, others were demolished that is one of the challenges right now. There are a number of agents who are just working in the open space and as it is right now we have no security,” Mr. Sinchende stated.
Recently, Minister of Technology and Science Felix Mutati said Government projects that mobile money transactions will exceed K200 billion this year because of the role it plays in the country’s economy.
