ERB approves guidelines for siting of petroleum infrastructure

• The Guidelines will be implemented immediately,
• Following the approval, the new guidelines shall replace the old guideline for siting of filling stations.
• In comparison to the old guidelines which were only applicable to filling stations, the new ones have a broader scope.

Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has approved the guidelines for siting of petroleum Infrastructure which it says shall be implemented immediately.
In a statement availed to Money FM News, ERB Public Relations Manager Namukolo Kasumpa said following the approval, the new guidelines shall replace the old guideline for siting of filling stations which ceased to be used on 15th August, 2022.
Ms. Kasumpa explained that in comparison to the old guidelines which were only applicable to filling stations, the new ones have a broader scope which extends to refinery, storage facilities, and pipelines and liquefied petroleum gas.
“It is anticipated that the new guidelines shall enhance the criteria for review and approval of proposed location for new petroleum infrastructure and also address shortcomings of the old guidelines for siting of filling stations with regard to safe distances from residential homes and electricity infrastructure,” Ms. Namukolo said.
She added that the Board has since commenced the process of gazetting the guidelines with the view to promulgation of the guidelines into Statutory Instrument and consequently into applicable regulations.
