Social Cash Transfer programme has scored well in 2022-PMRC

Policy Monitoring and Research Centre (PMRC) has observed that disbursement of funds under the Social Cash Transfer programme in the 2022 national budget has been timely and predictable.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Centre Acting Executive Director Sydney Mwamba noted that an analysis of the 2022 mid-year budget performance indicates that K1.4 billion was released for social cash transfer as at 30th June 2022.
Mr. Mwamba said Ministry of Finance has been consistent in providing updates on the disbursement of funds towards the program, a situation which is commendable.
“This programme has scored well in 2022. An analysis of the 2022 mid-year budget performance indicates that K1.4 billion was released for social cash transfer as at 30th June 2022. Government through the Ministry of Finance has consistently provided updates on the disbursement of funds towards the programme.”

“The disbursement has also been timely and predictable and we can only hope that the targeted beneficiaries are receiving these funds in line with Government’s disbursement time frame,” Mr. Mwamba stated.

According to the 2022 national budget, the social cash transfer programme was expanded from 880,539 to over 1, 024,000 households and government further announced an increase in the funds from K150 to K200 per month from K150 and from K300 to K400 per month for households with a severely disabled member.
