Oil Marketing Companies Association of Zambia (OMCZ) has attributed the current erratic supply of fuel being experienced in some parts of Lusaka to scarcity of the commodity on the domestic market.
Association President Dr. Kafula Mubanga told Money FM News in an interview that the situation will be resolved by today Monday or Tuesday because government is putting in place measures to ensure that the supply chain process normalizes in good time.
Dr. Mubanga further explained that the continued increase in crude oil prices on the global market also triggers some form of erratic supply in some instances, but says it is not something that is beyond control.
“The current erratic supply of fuel being experienced on the domestic market is necessitated by scarcity of the commodity on the market, but it should be resolved in few days to come. I think some products are being offloaded in various fuel depots so that will eventually normalize.”
“But we also know that the price of crude has kept going up hence the product cost has gone up, so that in itself triggers a little bit of erratic supply here and there but it’s not something that is beyond control. I think that government is putting measures in place to ensure that the supply chain process normalizes in good time. It may normalize by Monday or Tuesday,” Dr. Kafula stated.
He encouraged consumers not to over panic as government has put up a process to eradicate the current erratic supply of petroleum products.
“Consumers should not over panic government has put up a process to make sure that the current erratic supply is eradicated, and as an association we can affirm that I think in the next few days, you should see stabilization of the product on the market,” he said.
A shortage of fuel has hit some parts of Lusaka resulting in panic buying at filling stations that have supplies.
