Kaoma Town Council has completed the construction of a 1 by 2 classroom block in Chitwa West at a total of k440, 000 under the 2022 Constituency Development Fund.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Town Council Public Relations Officer Mike Daka said the school has since been handed over to Chitwa West Community.
Mr. Daka noted that this new facility replaces old and dilapidated temporary shelters made out of pole and mud which previously served as classroom blocks.
“Several kinds of research have proved that good infrastructure encourages pupils to attend school more regularly than the ones without any good facilities. A school should feel warm, comfortable, and welcoming to the pupils .Overcrowded environments affect the understanding levels of school children,” he said.
Mr. Daka noted that the council will continue to build schools in the district to complement the free education policy as a number of learners have gone back to school.
He added that previously, the council faced a number of challenges to implement construction projects due to inadequate funds under the CDF, further stating that it is a different story now with the increased funds.
“The significant expansion of Zambia’s Constituency Development Fund provides an important opportunity to make service delivery more responsive to public needs, strengthen decentralized local institutions, and promote economic development,” he said.
