Two FRA employees nabbed for theft of maize valued at K865, 000

• The Unit has formally jointly charged and arrested Kelly Makasa a Marketing Assistant and Cassidy Mende a Commodity Checker both of Luwingu.
• They stole 3, 425 by 50 kilogram bags of white maize from the Luwingu main depot valued at K865, 000.
• The Unit seized two incomplete houses belonging to the two suspects.

Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) through its Anti-Money Laundering Investigations Unit has arrested two Food Reserve Agency (FRA) employees in Luwingu district, Northern Province for theft by public servant and money laundering involving over K800, 000.

Commission Public Relations Officer Hussein Khan identified the two as Kelly Makasa a Marketing Assistant aged 32, and Cassidy Mende, a Commodity Checker aged 35.

Mr. Khan said the duo, jointly and whilst acting together with other persons unknown, on dates unknown but between 30th January 2020 and 14th February 2023, while employed by the FRA, stole 3, 425 by 50 kilogram bags of white maize from the Luwingu main depot valued at K865, 000.
“The Unit has formally jointly charged and arrested Kelly Makasa a Marketing Assistant aged 32 and Cassidy Mende a Commodity Checker aged 35 both of Luwingu for Theft by Public Servant contrary to section 277 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia and Money Laundering contrary to section 7 of the Prohibition and Prevention of Money Laundering Act No. 14 of 2001 as amended by Act No. 44 of 2010 of the Laws of Zambia,” Mr. Khan stated.
He added that in the course of investigations, the Commission’s Anti-Money Laundering Investigations Unit seized two incomplete houses belonging to the two suspects who are currently on bond and are scheduled to appear in court soon.
