Zambia Land Alliance (ZLA) has called on Government to thoroughly investigate the 500,000 title deeds that are missing critical details for them to be processed into the new Zambia Information Land Administration system.
Speaking to Money FM News, Alliance Executive Director Patrick Musole wondered why Government did not pay attention to such important information when it was conducting a countrywide survey.
Mr. Musole said revelations by Minister of Lands Elijah Muchima make a sad reading, hence the need for government to seriously investigate the matter.
“If critical information is missing on title deeds this means that there is lack of transparency and the ministry does not know who the land owners are which must not be the case,” he said.
“Further, we would like to urge Government to curb the encroachment of land in most parts of the country which has become a source of concern,” he added.
On Sunday, Lands Minister Elijah Muchima revealed that about 500,000 title deeds are missing critical details to be processed into the new Zambia Information Land Administration system from the old land management system
Mr. Muchima said the missing data has made the cleaning process difficult as the property owners cannot be contacted.
“The ongoing data cleaning had also found out that two thousand five hundred records which were lodged before the Ministry migrated last month to the new system Zambia Integrated Lands
administration System (Zambia Integrated Lands Information Management System –ZILMI),” he added.
He said in the previous system Zambia Integrated Lands Information Management System -ZILMIS, there was a lot of manipulation, double allocations and changing of title deeds without authority.
Mr. Muchima stated that government decided to do away with ZILMIS because it became a security risk as it was easily manipulated.
Meanwhile, Mr. Muchima dispelled media assertions that there was a shutdown of the system for three weeks, clarifying that the intentional shutdown was only for two days.
