ERB cautions Associations representing petroleum sub-sector licensees

• It is incumbent upon all Associations to proactively ensure that they are fully compliant with the appropriate government agencies.
• Active participation, adherence to regulations, and promotion of transparency by Associations is vital.
• ERB remains committed to fostering a competitive, well-regulated and sustainable energy market.

Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has cautioned Associations representing licensees in the petroleum sub-sector to ensure that they are registered with relevant government agencies such as the Registrar of Societies.
ERB Manager-Public Relations Namukolo Kasumpa said in a statement that it is incumbent upon all Associations representing licensed Oil Marketing Companies to proactively ensure that they are fully compliant with the appropriate government agencies.
Mrs. Kasumpa stated that this is in a bid for Associations to display their commitment to compliance so as to minimize the risk of fraudulent activities that might tarnish the reputation of licensees and the regulator.
She said the active participation, adherence to regulations, and promotion of transparency by Associations is vital to ensuring integrity of the sector and to the promotion of consumer protection.
“This cautionary measure is in line with ERB’s responsibility to uphold and maintain a well-structured and trustworthy energy sector in Zambia,” Mrs. Kasumpa stated.
She added that the Board will continue to monitor and assess the compliance of Associations representing licensees and will take appropriate measures to maintain an environment that benefits all stakeholders including consumers.
“ERB remains committed to fostering a competitive, well-regulated and sustainable energy market,” she added.
