Encroaching on Lukanga Water’s Well-fields worries WARMA

The Water Resource Management Agency (WARMA) is saddened that encroachment on Lukanga Water and Sewerage Company Limited in Kabwe saying this is impacting negatively on the quality of ground water.
The Agency has cited Makululu, Chililalila, Kalulu and Mukobeko Well-fields as hotspots for encroachment with numerous infrastructure sprouting up.
WARMA Acting Manager for Kabwe-Luangwa, Emmanuel Sakeyo says encroachment has heightened and the quantity of ground water is being depleted resulting in low yields.
Mr. Sakeyo notes that it is worrying that there has been indiscriminate settlements in the well-fields and that most of the structures are less than 30 meters between the well-fields against the new borehole regulations no.20 of 2018.
He adds that there is need for WARMA, Lukanga Water and Sewerage Company and Kabwe Municipal Council to collaborate more and end land encroachment.
And Lukanga Water and Sewerage Company Public Relations Officer Louis Mwape says the current status calls for worry and fast action especially that the utility utilises 75% of ground water.
