The Citizens Environment and Social Concern (CESCo) has encouraged the government to look for a viable, capable and experienced investor to partner with to convert waste to energy.

CESCo Executive Director Conwell Hakapya tells Money FM News that government should emulate Ethiopia that recently inaugurated a power plant which converts waste into energy.

Mr. Hakapya says Lusaka, like any other capital city, produces huge sums of waste which he feels can be an opportunity to generate energy.

He says Zambia should start striving to pursue zero waste to landfills and this can be done by making use of the waste into something productive.

Mr. Hakapya says Lusaka has the capacity to establish a plant that can take up to 1,400 tons of waste daily which figure comes up to about 80% of garbage generated in the city.

The CESCo Executive Director has since encouraged the government to go a step further in identifying a viable investor that can take up such a huge task of converting waste into energy.
