BuyZed offloads 2019 budget expectations

The BuyZed Campaign, a local NGO, says it is expecting the government to zero rate all import taxes on imported raw materials in the 2019 national budget.

BuyZed Campaign Founder Evans Ngoma the campaign is also expecting that the government will introduce an extra incentive to any firm which is going to setup factories which will add value to the many raw materials dotted in the newly formed districts.

Mr. Ngoma says this measure will encourage setting up of factories in rural areas which will help reduce rural urban drift instead the opposite will be possible.

He says his organization is further expecting the government, through the Ministry of Finance, to reduce import duty on trucks of all forms.

“This measure will encourage importation of trucks which will make it possible to move goods and services on time and help reduce the transportation charges,” he emphasizes.

Mr. Ngoma says there is further need for the government to consider removing the K2, 000 fine imposed for importing a motor vehicle older than five years.

“We also expect to see that government removes the borehole levy, i introduce a 25% import duty on fruits and vegetables which Zambia can grow,” he submits.
