Industrialization key to attaining Vision 2030 – Commerce PS

Ministry of Commerce Trade and Industry Permanent Secretary Kayula Siame says industrialization is a key to attaining the vision of becoming a prosperous middle income country by 2030.

Ms Kayula Siame says sustainable development goal number nine which is industry, innovation and infrastructure recognizes the centrality of industrialization in development.

Ms Siame says the path to industrialization does not come without challenges, adding that there is need to create a conducive and coherent policy environment and implementation to overcome the challengers.

She says in view of the challengers African governments have endorsed and adopted the plan of action for the accelerated industrial development and directed the African Union commission to speedily operationalise it in collaboration with the United Nations industrial development organization the United Nations economic commission for Africa and other development partners.

She says Zambia is part of the SADC industrialization strategy and roadmap twenty fifteen to twenty sixty three that was developed to technologically and economically transforms the SADC region through industrialization, modernization skills development science and technology.

She says the country has domesticated regional plans on industrialization and is creating a number of measures which include adopting policies, programs and reforms that help develop industries of comparative advantage to ensure creation of secure jobs and live hood.
