The Zambia Airports Corporation Limited says the overall completion of the Copperbelt Airport is at 25% and the scheduled completion date is October 2020.
Zambia Airports Corporation Limited says it has for the past few years been engaged in major infrastructure development projects to upgrade the four international airports.
The four Airports are Kenneth Kaunda, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe, Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula and Mfuwe.
These infrastructure development projects were embarked on to accommodate the anticipated increase in traffic, cargo volumes and passenger numbers.
Zambia Airports Corporation Limited Communication and Brands Manager Mweembe Sikaulu says the Copperbelt Airport will have a capacity of one million passengers per annum.
Ms Sikaulu says the Terminal Building will include three aero bridges.
“Other facilities include a 50 roomed luxury hotel, a new Fire and Rescue Service Station, a Cargo Terminal, Aircraft Maintenance Hangar and an Airport Fuel Farm,” she said.
Ms Sikaulu says the on-going work at the new Copperbelt International Airport is at a cost of US$397 million.
She says the design and construction of airport infrastructure at the Copperbelt International Airport was awarded to Avic International Holding Corporation.
“The construction of new passenger terminal is at 11%, business complex is at 35%, Air traffic control building is at 22%, runway, taxiway and apron stands at 78% while viaduct is at 24%,” she said.
The Zambia Airports Corporation Limited says that there are good prospects for growth in the aviation industry in Zambia.
ZACL Director for Airport Services Agness Chaila has cited the increasing number of airplane operators in Zambia.
She says the increase is as a result of the airplane infrastructure development projects that are ongoing in some parts of the country.
She said this in an interview with Money FM News in Lusaka.
