2018 performance of economy below satisfaction – Economist

Renowned Economist Noel Nkhoma has charged that Zambia’s economy in the ending year 2018 has performed below satisfaction.
Mr. Nkhoma, who is also Chief Executive Officer of Betternow Finance, tells Money FM News that this is because economic growth remains a challenge for the copper producing country.
Mr. Nkhoma argues that Zambia has a population growth that is almost at par with the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth.
He says this alone puts stress on the government to provide social and economic services to the people.
He also notes that the Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SMEs) sector has not grown in the period under review.
“Liquidity on the other hand has been carried out due to government’s appetite to borrow,” he noted.
Mr. Nkhoma says these are the issues that have made the country’s economy performing below satisfaction.
He was speaking in an interview with Money FM News shortly after featuring on Money FM Business Radio’s ‘Masters at Money Programme’ that airs at 11:40 every Tuesday.
