Govt collects K38.7bn revenue, grants

Minister of Finance says a total of thirty-eight point seven billion kwacha was collected in revenue and grants over the period from January to September 2018.
Speaking at the third quarter economic performance briefing in Lusaka, Mrs. Mwanakatwe says the collected grants and revenue was about one-point one percent higher than the target of thirty-eight point three billion kwacha.
Ms Mwanakatwe has also disclosed that the total expenditure over the same period was fifty point three billion which was below the target of fifty-one point four billion kwacha.
The Minister also says that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as at second quarter of 2018 picked up to three-point nine percent compared to two-point seven percent in the first quarter of 2018.
The Minister of Finance has attributed GDP to positive performance in mining, stable electricity supply and manufacturing and construction.
Mrs. Mwanakatwe has also noted that external debt stock as at close of the third quarter stood at nine point five one billion United States dollars from nine point three seven billion United States dollars as at the end of the second quarter of 2018.
She has attributed the increase in the third quarter to the payment of some new disbursements.
And the Cabinet Minister is optimistic that the country will manage to redeem the Eurobond that is due in 2022.
She says about ten million dollars has been set aside to service the Eurobond.
