ZEMA clarifies on plastic ban

The Zambia Environment Management Agency says the implementing of the Extended Producer Responsibility Bill will be done gradually.
ZEMA Manager for Operations David Kapindula says the agency will very soon announce a date when the new law will be effected, adding that it will not be done overnight.
Mr Kapindula says the new law will allow the affected manufactures to diversify in the kind of goods to produce, adding that the standards of plastics required under the new law are recycled.
He says government has decided to ban the use of plastic bags because they have serious repercussions on the environment.
Mr Kapindula was speaking when he featured on Money FM Business Radio’s Policy, Power and Money Programme that airs Mondays and Thursdays at 9hrs.
