Govt to work on damaged Great North Road

President Edgar Lungu has directed the Road Development Agency (RDA) to work on the Great North Road that is said to be in a bad state.
And RDA Muchinga Regional Office has received K1.2 million to work on the same road.
On Wednesday, the Petroleum Transporters Association of Zambia appealed to the government to work on the stretch from Serenje through Mpika to Nakonde along the Great North Road.
PTAZ Chief Executive Officer Benson Tembo told Money FM News that it is not a secret that this stretch on this important road that connects Zambia to East Africa is in a bad state.
President Lungu has since assigned a delegation from both the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure Development and the Road Development Agency to conduct an onsite inspection of the ongoing works at some of the most damaged spots along the Great North Road in Muchinga Province.
According to a statement issued to Money FM News, Engineers and other Senior officials from both the ministry and Agency including the RDA Board Chairperson Mr. Samuel Mukupa have accompanied the Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Development Ronald Chitotela for the inspection.
And the RDA Regional office in Muchinga has confirmed the receipt of funds amounting to K1.2 million for the spot improvement of some sections of the poor state of the Great North Road from Mpika to Nakonde.
RDA has identified some sections of the road that are critical and need urgent attention and these are at Lukulu crossing between Mpika and Serenje, Vitondo crossing between Chinsali and Isoka and Kapilonga and Ilendela between Isoka and Nakonde Districts.
The current works are being executed in collaboration with Zambia National Service.
